The Effect of Children¡¯s Perceived Marital Conflict and Peer Relationship on Alienation

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of children¡¯s perceived marital conflict and peer relationship on children¡¯s alienation. The subjects of this study were 452 children of 5th or 6th graders in Gyeonggi-do. The results of study are as follows: First, children¡¯s perceived marital conflict had significant influence on the children¡¯s alienation. However, gender difference had not been observed. Second, there were gender differences in the connection between the peer relationships and the alienation. In boy¡¯s cases, the emotional support and common activities had significant influence on children¡¯s alienation; in girl¡¯s cases, however, the emotional support had significant influence on children¡¯s alienation. Third, in research of the effects of children¡¯s perceived marital conflict and peer relationship on children¡¯s alienation, the emotional support and common activities without children¡¯s perceived marital conflict relation showed independent effects on boys. And the emotional support without children¡¯s perceived marital conflict relation showed independent effects on girls.
